Help for Pakistan
In August 2010, catastrophic flooding in Pakistan killed 1,500, destroyed 6,000 villages and left almost 20 million people without shelter, food, clean water, health care and other basic needs. The Union for Reform Judaism’s relief partners, American Jewish World Service (ajws.org) and the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (jdc.org) have opened funds to assist in the recovery efforts. We encourage you to support the efforts of these organizations and bring relief to affected Pakistanis. Of course, if individuals prefer giving through the Union they are welcome to do so through our general Disaster Relief Fund, (http://urj.org/socialaction/issues/relief/) and we will pass those funds along to our partners.

Picking With a Purpose
Come celebrate the Jewish New Year by celebrating nature and family! Share in the joy of apple picking with friends and family, and then share in the joy of giving some of our bounty to those in need. September 12th, right after Sunday School, we'll caravan to an apple orchard (Bowman Orchards, Exit 8 off the Northway). We'll pick bags for ourselves and bags to be delivered to Joseph's House and/or the Mount Ida Food Pantry. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience with your kids the true meaning of Rosh Hashanah. It will be a lesson they remember always.... Please email Annie Rody-Wright, if interested, and for directions, at: annierodywright@yahoo.com.
