The Social Action Committee Needs Your Help!

One of the most beautiful things about our congregation is our commitment to helping those in our community and world who have less than we do. This year, Annie Rody-Wright is chairing our Social Action Committee to help manage our Social Action & Tikkun Olam activities. Your help, ideas and input is needed! If interested, or if you would like to know a little bit more how you can help, please contact Annie at: annierodywright@yahoo.com or call 439-1992. And now for the Fall line-up of activities (with more to follow):

Volunteering at the Northeast Regional Food Bank

Volunteering is a Mitzvah!

We have scheduled several Sunday afternoon volunteer outings for 2012 and we would like your help and participation with this important mitzvah. Please join us on from 1:00pm - 3:00pm on the following Sunday afternoons: January 8th, February 19th, March 25th, April 29th and May 13th. The Northeast Regional Food Bank is located in Latham. For families, this is a wonderful (and easy) opportunity to show kids how much fun it is to volunteer to help others in need. Children over age 5 are welcome, and those who are studying for their bar or bat mitzvah can get “mitzvah hours” for helping.

Please dress in layers and wear clothing that can get messy. No open-toes shoes please. Please email Margo Singer at margosinger@yahoo.com or call her at 463-8801 if you can attend. We do need to give the Food Bank an exact account two weeks in advance so Registration is necessary. You are welcome to bring friends (they don’t have to be congregants). Thank you!

New web resource
The Reform Jewish Movement has launched a comprehensive new web resource - urj.org/green - to help congregations and congregants live more environmentally sustainable lives and fulfill the Jewish mandate to be good stewards of the earth. The new web portal includes step-by-step greening guides for home and synagogue use, programming ideas and congregational best practices, suggestions for green celebrations, advocacy materials, Jewish texts and much more.
