The Social Action Committee Needs Your Help!
One of the most beautiful things about our congregation is our commitment to helping those in our community and world who have less than we do. This year, Annie Rody-Wright is chairing our Social Action Committee to help manage our Social Action & Tikkun Olam activities. Your help, ideas and input is needed! If interested, or if you would like to know a little bit more how you can help, please contact Annie at: annierodywright@yahoo.com or call 439-1992. And now for the Fall line-up of activities (with more to follow):
.
"Picking with a Purpose". Come celebrate the Jewish New Year by celebrating nature and family! Share in the joy of apple-picking with friends & family, and then share in the joy of giving some of our bounty to those in need. September 12th, right after Sunday School, we'll caravan-it to an apple orchard (place TBD). We'll pick bags for ourselves and bags to be delivered to Joseph's House and/or the Mount Ida Food Pantry. Don't miss out on this opportunity to experience with your kids the true meaning of Rosh Hashanah. It'll be a lesson they remember always.......
Stuff your belly for a cause: On October 3rd after Sunday School we will walk together to Troy’s 6th annual "Empty Bowls" fundraiser to combat hunger in the Capital District. If you've never been, you don't know what you're missing! You pay $10, pick out a homemade pottery bowl donated by a local potter (yours to keep!), and then sample bottomless bowls of yummy homemade soups provided by area restaurants (chowders, bisques, noodle-filled, you name it!), plus feast on bread, cookies, cider ..... It's a wonderful, totally fun way to feed the community, while feeding yourself.
Berith Sholom will be walking as a team in the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer event on Sunday, October 17th in Washington Park (Albany). Saving lives from breast cancer starts one team, one walker, and one dollar at a time. Join our Team, and together we will create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays! This is part of our Tikkun Olam effort---- to make the world a better place. To sign-up to walk or pledge (all ages, dogs welcome, too) go to: http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/MakingStridesAgainstBreastCancer/MSABCFY11National?team_id=744225&pg=team&fr_id=27985 You can also contact Margo Singer, Team Captain at margosinger@yahoo.com.

Our regional Food Bank -- this is a great opportunity for families to "give" together. We have arranged for several volunteer outings at the Northeast Regional Food Bank. These will occur on Sundays from 1-3 pm and this is suitable for all ages! If there is enough interest, we will plan a light pizza lunch at noon after Sunday School ends, and caravan together. Otherwise, we will meet directly at the Food Bank in Latham. The Fall dates are: October 31st (costumes optional), November 14th, and December 19th. Mark your calendars! Additional Winter & Spring dates will be set up later in the Fall. Mitzvah hours are available to those kids studying for b’nei mitzvah.
